Our Employees

Many of you must have met Brenda on the telephone already – that calm and soft spoken voice on the other end of the Better Meals order line. She is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys her weekends camping and fishing in the countryside.
Julie is the latest member to join the order desk team. Julie loves every creature on earth, including rodents and bugs (except aphids, because they keep attacking her plum trees). She also loves to cook. Better Meals now has more than 8 order desk employees to help serve you more efficiently.

Our People - Better Meals From The Best People

Better Meals was established in 1993 by people who understand the need of seniors for well-prepared meals and home delivery. Above all, we know that choice of food is important. Since then the company has gone from strength to strength. We receive letters daily from customers like John Paul of New Westminster: "...I am diabetic and they (Better Meals) supply me with special meals. The meals have a homemade taste and are very nutritious. The soup is delicious. There is a wide choice of dinners, soups and desserts to choose from."
The reason why we receive comments like this, is the dedicated people who work for Better Meals. Our staff recognise that it is more than a job they are doing, they are providing a vital service, much needed by the seniors in our community.
Customers calling in to place orders for meals are greeted by the friendly voices of front office staff, who very quickly become friends. Drivers who deliver meals get to know their customers personally and many of our customers look forward to their visits. Food is prepared and packed by expert chefs and food handlers all of whom, take care that only the best product, is delivered to customers. Better Meals staff enjoy working with seniors and they are all patient and understanding of their needs.
Key People
Two key people are responsible for overseeing that customer expectations are met.
Front Office Sam

Sam Chan is the Manager, Client Relations, he oversees the front office activities, his is the voice many customers hear when they call in to discuss the Better Meals service. In addition to managing the front office, Sam does presentations to hospitals and seniors activity centres on Better Meals service. Here is what Janice Stanbury, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Geriatric Outreach Program; North Shore Health Region has to say about the Better Meals service: "Many of the clientele we service are at grave nutritional risk and have benefited greatly from Better Meals."
By training, Sam is an accountant, however the food business is in his blood, with his grandfather and father having been in the restaurant business. Sam's passion is working with people and he has tremendous empathy with the elderly, going out of his way to understand and meet their nutritional needs.
In his spare time Sam enjoys, you guessed it... cooking at home! We have to say that he also enjoys spending time with his family and walking with his wife Christiane.
Chef Ann

Known to some as Ann McGrail, to most as Chef Ann, she is responsible for managing the kitchens, overseeing the production of meals and planning and adapting menus.
Chef Ann has been in institutional cooking for many years. Her experience prior to starting Better Meals with Sam includes, working in Surrey Memorial Hospital and Langley Lodge Retirement Home. Her extensive experience means that she understands the nutritional requirements of the elderly. More importantly, she understands the need for variety in food, and the importance of fresh, great tasting home cooking. Comments like this one from Therese Boyd of Vancouver reflect the dedication of Ann and her team: "Thank you and congratulations to Chef Anne and the team for the wonderful meals I enjoy every day."
Born and bred in Liverpool England, Ann came to Canada more years ago than she cares to remember. In her spare time, Ann enjoys knitting, sewing, and above all spending time with her grandchildren.
